Programs and Exhibits

The HSC exhibit floor is 7,500 sq. feet and is self-guided and hands-on. Most exhibits require active participation by the visitor. Some require dexterity and/or creativity, but all result in better understanding and appreciation of scientific principles and concepts. More than 70 hands-on exhibits and a variety of animals await your visit. Stop back often, as we are constantly building and adding more exhibits.

Science Club

Science Club: after-school science on Mondays for grades 3-5.

Education enveloped in fun helps to instill a future interest in science. Science Club meets weekly except when the public schools are not in session. It provides hands-on afterschool science activities. A snack is provided. Space is limited, so register early. Scholarships are available. Sorry - we cannot offer refunds.

Call HSC at (218) 444-4472 for prices and to register.

The live animal collection at HSC is maintained for educational purposes to further the appreciation of living things and to demonstrate biological and life history processes.

Where appropriate and under supervision of HSC staff, visitors may handle and examine most of the animals. Group demonstrations and activities using live animals can be arranged.

Snake Feeding is a popular event on Saturdays at 3pm – check our calendar to see if this Saturday is a Snake Feeding Day.

Demonstrations - a wide variety of learning fun for youth of all ages. Most demos are about a half hour in length. Advance registration is required to ensure that staff and facilities are available.

Typical demonstrations last about one-half hour. Cost for each in-house demonstration is $3.00 per person with a minimum charge of $60.00 per demonstration. Hands-on group programs are $4.00 per person with a $60.00 minimum.

Environmental Science Club

Environmental Science Club is a new program dedicated to the conservation and preservation of the local and regional environment, especially as it pertains to our aquatic resources.

It is designed to increase education and awareness of environmental issues, while we strive to improve practices within and beyond our watershed and into the community by making better environmental stewards of us all.

Students are engaged in hands-on, educationally based programs that include learning from experienced environmental professionals and then participating in professional and academic field and lab work, including monitoring and analyzing water chemistry.
